Students correctly using punctuation in their writing can sometimes be a challenge, especially in the primary grades.  A lot of people have used popsicle sticks in the past and simply used a permanent marker to write on the stick.  What I have noticed from student writing is that many students also have trouble with spacing.  When you use those traditional sticks, you are covering up their writing.

By using these punctuation sticks, your students can easily see how punctuation will look in their writing since the tops of them are clear.

To make these sticks, you will need:
  • wood craft (popsicle) sticks
  • tape
  • laminate scraps
  • permanent marker

You simply will cut out a piece of laminate, write a punctuation mark using a permanent marker, and then attach it to the popsicle.

Enjoy and let me know how they work in your classroom.
